Wat Trimitr (Temple of the Golden Buddha) - Bangkok


Wat Trimitr is a royal temple, second class. Located at the end of Chinatown's Yaowarat road. It was built around 1832 and originally named Wat Sam Chin. In 1929, the name was changed to Wat Trimitr Witthayaram Worawihan. This temple house the golden Buddha image named "Phra Maha Suwanna Patimakorn" of the Sukhothai period. The Buddha image is 3 meters height and weight 5.5 tons. It used to be coated with lacquered and gilded. The plaster chip were later accidentally cracked and hidden golden Buddha image then discover. The building have 4 storey, 2nd floor is Yaowarat Chinatown Heritage Center, 3rd floor is Phra Buddha Maha Suwanna Patimakorn exhibition hall. 4th floor is the shrine of the golden Buddha image.
